Even if you think you can get away with it a couple of times a month, you may be very disheartened to find out pool maintenance is an ongoing chore that will take up a good chunk of your time.

The difference will be that this time around, as much as possible, you want to be thorough and deep clean. This, as opposed to your usual, quick, once over, assures a much more enjoyable pool ownership experience. As well as small particles floating around, this helps get rid of built-up debris:
- Remove large items and leaves with a skimmer.
- Brush/vacuum the floor and walls thoroughly.
- Rinse off pool equipment and the deck.
3. Checking Your Equipment
An in-depth inspection of your pool should be done monthly. Look for cracks, tears, visible leaks, and other damage indicators. Special attention should be paid to handrails, ladders, and other safety equipment.
Finally, check mechanical equipment like your filter and pump for worn parts, broken seals, or leaks that could cause a malfunction of your pool.
4. Cleaning Your Filter
To keep your pool water as clean as possible, and in order for your filter to work efficiently, it occasionally needs a thorough filter cleaning.
Depending on the type of filter, backwashing should be done monthly. Additionally, you may need to chemically lube, clean, and completely disassemble your filter.
Much of this, as said, depends on the filtering system you use for your pool.
5. Shocking!
This does, of course, refer to the “shock treatment” needed, particularly if heavy usage has been experienced by a pool. Sometimes, bacteria and algae can’t be handled simply by regular chemical treatments.
To keep your water quality where it should be, monthly shock treatments are not out of the question. Additionally, after heavy rainstorms or a large pool party, they’re a good idea.
